APROFOBIA
(“medo da pobreza ou do pobre”)
Se tu ris
da morte de um outro.
Se celebras a dor
de outro alguém.
Se espalhas o ódio
aos ventos...
Ruminando fraquezas
no horror.
Se não enxergas
a fome nos olhos.
Simplesmente porque
você já comeu.
Se não choras
ao clamor de um inocente.
Me desculpe
foi você quem morreu.
Se não vês
a angústia dormindo.
Nas calçadas
do seu Bulevar.
Se abominas
o que é diferente.
Se proclamas divino
ao julgar.
Se não entendes
o canto da terra
e o caminho que ele teceu.
Se acreditas
que compras a verdade.
Me desculpe
Foi você que morreu.

APOROFOBIA
(“the fear of poverty or of the poor”)
If you laugh
at the death of another.
If you celebrate the pain
of someone else.
If you spew hate
to the winds . . .
Pondering weakness
in horror.
If you do not see
hunger in the eyes,
Simply because
you have already eaten.
If you shed no tear
hearing the cry of an innocent.
Excuse me
but it was you who died.
If you do not see
anguish sleeping
On the sidewalks
of the Boulevard.
If you hate
what is different [and]
If you presume yourself divine
when you judge.
If you do not understand
the earth’s music
and the tune that it has strummed.
If you believe
that you can buy the truth.
Excuse me
but it was you who died.

Journey Inward is an image for disciplines and rituals that lead to a deeper level of self-knowing and connecting with the larger context of all of life, of all that is, that may be referred to as “Mystery,” “Spirit,” “God.” Journey Outward images a call to engage in community and the concrete world, visioning and exploring ways to create a more sustainable, just and peaceful world. Join me in a conversation that considers these journeys and their inter-connections.
